With over 30 years of experience, Philippe d’Arschot is an antiques dealer and a recognised expert in antique silver and goldsmiths’ work. He is a member of the Royal Chamber of Antiquarians and Art Dealers and of the Royal Chamber of Art Experts in Belgium, and is also the author of several scholarly articles and publications.
Founded in Brussels in 1990, Galerie Philippe d’Arschot has established itself as a reference in the field of European goldsmiths’ work, spanning the 15th to the 19th century. The term “goldsmiths’ work” is understood here in its full richness: while gold and silver remain its emblematic materials, others such as hardstones, exotic woods, rock crystal and enamels reveal the diversity and creativity of a field too often reduced to silverware alone. A selection of Renaissance and Baroque jewellery further complements this ensemble.
The gallery operates both in Belgium and internationally, advising private collectors and institutions in matters of expertise, consultancy, acquisition and sale. Research lies at the heart of its activity: it informs the understanding of each object and is reflected in a specialised library which, as of 2026, comprises more than 1,600 volumes devoted to European goldsmiths’ work and jewellery. Since 2018, the regular publication of a catalogue featuring a selection of significant works has extended this approach, providing a valuable reference tool for collectors, scholars and enthusiasts alike. The gallery has participated for many years in the BRAFA Art Fair in Brussels, now recognised as one of the leading events in the European art market.
Since 2017, Erika Basso, PhD in Art History, has been part of the gallery. She contributes to research, gallery management, and relations with collectors and institutions.
